At Broken City Artists we see ourselves as both the place for the artist with more scholastic tendencies, as well as, paradoxically, a place for the renegade, the outsider, the loner, the nomad, the introverted innovator, or any artist not prone to learning in the usual way (or even repulsed, frightened or repelled by that notion all together!). BCA is different.

What exactly does this mean? It means that we're here for the artist that has begun creating, has an operational level of technique, and is ready to progress via our holistic approach. If you're creating and feel as though there's a piece of you in what you're doing, consider that enough. Let's go from there. If you've been an artist for years, won countless awards, earned accolades and seek to go ever-deeper, we're here for you as well, with respect for where you've been and where you're heading.

A NEW APPROACH TO ARTS EDUCATION
For some of us, there's something off-putting about the idea of "art school" or the idea that art can really even be taught at all. Then there's that classic phrase "Those who can't do, teach," or the notion that a degree in the arts isn't useful in the "real world."
There is some validity to all of this. But more so, there's a sense that art in modern culture has been hijacked by greed and taken hostage by the notion that if you're not rich and famous, you're a failure. Or that the only way to succeed is to compromise your own artistic instincts and chase trends.
We want to help put the focus back on what matters: the artist's truth.
Broken City Artists' goal is to redefine what it means to be assisted in one's artistic life. We see this as a community of like-minded artists, all learning, each on their own path.
When you work with us, we're about you. As valuable as it can be to learn from watching videos on
YouTube, it's in the interaction, interplay, and individualized focus that much of the real work can be done. If we're successful at what we do, we're more mirror & magnifying glass, than teacher & student.
